Webquest

When first starting the WebQuest, I was overwhelmed. We were instructed to build an inquiry-oriented lesson that would allow students to search, browse, question, and investigate. I formed my project about The Diary of Anne Frank. After finishing my WebQuest, I realized how much I learned from it. I am now able to navigate WebQuests with ease, form links between websites, add calendars and file cabinets, detail graphics, add media, and align to ISTE standards. I know how to properly set up my WebQuest pages, and the proper material that should be included on each page. I found, as well, that assessment for students is a MUST when constructing a WebQuest.  Students have to be assessed on how much learning they have had. If this isn't included, there is no way for a teacher to know how effective his/her WebQuest was for the students' learning.  The WebQuest enabled me to implement technology for groups of students that are growing up with technology. Students today would be bored with simple paper and pencil work. They will want to use technological resources for their learning, and that is exactly for the WebQuest allows them to do. I was able to include links to websites, pictures, and videos for students. Student will be more engaged with their learning. Instead of me standing in front of them giving out information, they will have to navigate and discover information themselves.  Discovery learning will give students more learning resources for their projects... (i.e. internet, videos, etc...) and they will be more likely to be intrinsically motivated to learn class mateiral.  The ISTE NET Standards that are met with the WebQuest are: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity, Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments, and Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. I now feel confident setting up Web Quest projects for students, and I know they are excellent resources for student learning. The students' creativity that I will see in their individual projects from the WebQuest will be well worth my time to form this assignment for them. I like how students will have to discover, take charge of their own learning and gather information. This is what digital age learning is all about!
