We were assigned to build a comic concerning Digital Citizenship in pairs in Technology in the Classroom. I loved building my comic! We were able to use our individual creativity and ideas and incorporate them in each scene. When I become a high school English teacher, I would love using this as a project-based lesson. Students will be able to have free accounts on Pixton, and can work on their projects as long as they have an internet connection. Also, they can send me their projects to review and give feedback on. Projects can be based on school subjects, expressions of teen problems, or creative works of humor. I think it is important for students to know before they work on their comics that they should hold nothing back on their creativity, as long as it is appropriate. Students will be in charge of their learning, and I would be the facilitator - there only to help or answer questions. This will help build critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills in students, and I think these are important skills to have. After high school graduation, the students will use these skills when they enter college or the work force.
The ISTE Standards that apply for the Pixton comic include: Faciliate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity, Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments, and Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility. For my project specifically, the Digital Citizenship and Responsibility standard applies, but this will not always apply to every comic students build.
